Taraval Station

School Year is Winding Down

studying_bookDear Taraval Educators, Students, Parents, and Staff

We’re closing in fast on the end of the 2013-14 school year. Spring Break has come and gone. Our high school students are preparing to take the California Standards Test (CST). In addition, some of them will be taking Advanced Placement (AP) exams next month. Officer Austria, Officer Graves and I are staying vigilant to ensure Taraval’s Education Community stays safe in these times of stressful tests.

On a side note, there was yet another high-profile school incident that grabbed national headlines. In the early morning hours on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, a high school sophomore in Pennsylvania injured over twenty of his peers by slashing and stabbing them with a pair of knives. It was widely reported most victims were unaware they had been victimized until they felt blood on their skins. The sophomore was described as a typical student and there was no obvious sign of provocation or motive.

Officer Austria, Officer Graves and I want to stress again it is up to each and every one of us to ensure the safety of our students, teachers, and staff. If you suspect any problem or issue that you feel can endanger lives, please notify the school staff or a School Resource Officer immediately.

I’m very thankful that Taraval’s Education Community has so far provided a safe environment on our campuses. Officer Austria, Officer Graves and I look forward to closing yet another successful school year. But, before we get there, Captain Lum and the officers of Taraval Station wish you the students the best of luck on your tests!
