{"id":13385,"date":"2018-07-02T11:41:11","date_gmt":"2018-07-02T18:41:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taraval.org\/?p=13385"},"modified":"2018-07-11T07:39:20","modified_gmt":"2018-07-11T14:39:20","slug":"fireworks-safety-information-from-san-francisco-fire-department","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taraval.org\/?p=13385","title":{"rendered":"FIREWORKS SAFETY INFORMATION FROM SAN FRANCISCO FIRE DEPARTMENT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">As the 4<\/span><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">th <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">of July celebratory events are upon us, the San Francisco Fire Department is reminding all residents and visitors that San Francisco has zero tolerance for the use and sale of all fireworks. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">SOME FACTS:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Each year more than 12,000 fireworks-related injuries, half of them children, are treated in hospital emergency rooms.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">More than 25% of the children injured by fireworks are innocent bystanders.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,Calibri; font-size: medium;\">Something as simple as a sparkler burns at temperatures of up to 1,800 degrees! That\u2019s hot <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">enough to melt gold. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Firework accidents cause millions in property loss each year.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #453bcc; font-size: medium;\">\u2022 <\/span><b><span style=\"color: #0a0979; font-family: Calibri,Calibri; font-size: medium;\">MUNICIPAL CODE SEC. 1290. DISCHARGE OF FIREWORKS PROHIBITED. <\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,Calibri; font-size: medium;\">&#8220;No person or persons, firm, company, corporation or association shall fire or discharge any <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">fireworks of any kind or description within the limits of the City and County of San Francisco. Provided, however, that public displays of fireworks may be given with the joint written consent of <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,Calibri; font-size: medium;\">the Fire Marshal and the Chief of Police&#8221;. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Possession of fireworks such as sky rockets, bottle rockets, roman candles, aerial shells, firecrackers, and other types that explode, go into the air, or move on the ground in an uncontrollable manner can lead to a possible fine or jail time in the county jail. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,Calibri; font-size: medium;\">Even &#8220;Safe and Sane&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Fireworks, such as firecrackers and sparklers, are illegal. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The San Francisco Fire Department strongly urges San Franciscans to keep themselves and their neighborhoods safe this year. Noise complaints and use of fireworks should be directed to the Police non-emergency number at: 415-553-0123. Please keep 911 available for people with police, fire, or medical emergencies. The fireworks will be launched from barges near Pier 39 and Aquatic Park. Large crowds are expected to view the shows along the waterfront and use of public transportation is encouraged.
