In 2014, there were no homicides in the Taraval Police District. This is the first time in the last 5 years that this has occurred. The Taraval Police District also had the lowest number of robberies and aggravated assault in 2014 than it did in the previous 4 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Taraval Police District had the lowest Part 1 crime rate in 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Unfortunately, burglaries, vehicle theft, and burglary theft from vehicles rose. This means that we need to do better. We have conducted numerous operations with officers in uniform and in plainclothes to try to catch these criminals, but it very difficult as the district is so large.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It\u2019s better if these crimes never happen. So what can you do?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For Burglaries:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8211; Install cameras on your house.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8211; Put timers on different lights throughout the interior and exterior of the house.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8211; Don\u2019t tell people that you\u2019ll be out of town either through social media or your answering machine.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8211; Have newspaper, mail, and deliveries held or picked up by someone you trust.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For Burglary Theft from Vehicles:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8211; Leave nothing visible in the car.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8211; Keep the car locked, including the doors and trunk.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8211; Keep packages locked in your car\u2019s trunk while shopping. Move your car to a different location each time you pack in more items.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Car Theft:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8211; Try to park in well lit areas at night.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8211; Use a steering wheel type locking device.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8211; Install a car alarm<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8211; Lock your car when you leave.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8211; Park inside or in an attended lot if possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Join the SFPD<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The SFPD is accepting continuous applications for entry level police officers.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> To apply:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> &#8211; Go to www.jobapps.com\/sf<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> &#8211; Go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, choose law enforcement, and register to take the San Francisco exam. It costs $45.00, but financial assistance is available.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> &#8211; Choose an available exam date and schedule your exam<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> &#8211; You will receive an email confirming your exam date, time and location.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But what if you already have a job that you can\u2019t give up, but want to be a police officer too. You can apply to become a reserve officer for the San Francisco Police Department.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> The Police Reserve Officer Program is comprised of community members, who wish to volunteer as a Police Officer. These officers supplement the full-time officers in a variety of duties throughout the Department. They patrol in vehicles, on foot patrols, or on bicycle patrol. Most Reserve Officers work with officers, but others can qualify to patrol on their own. This program is ideal for individuals who have an established career and do not wish to make a full transition to full-time Police Officer.
