Alert: Van Ness Avenue Detours Starting Next Week<\/strong><\/span>
\n HerreroBOLDT Enters Tunnel Construction Phase<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

SAN FRANCISCO, CA\u2014HerreroBOLDT, general contractor for Sutter Health\u2019s CPMC Van Ness and Geary Campus, is starting construction on Monday night, April 6 for its next building phase: a 124-foot-long, 10-foot-wide and 10-foot-high pedestrian tunnel beneath Van Ness Avenue that will connect the future 274-bed hospital and medical office building.<\/span><\/p>\n

This phase of construction will require temporary traffic restrictions on Van Ness Avenue between Ellis and Pine Streets, and a one block closure between Geary and Post. To expedite tunnel construction, HerreroBOLDT is working with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and with Caltrans\u2014which oversees the Van Ness Avenue\/US 101 corridor.<\/span><\/p>\n

There will be partial nighttime closures of Van Ness Avenue the week of:<\/span><\/strong>
\nApril 6\u2014April 9, from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

There will be FULL 72-hour closures the weekends of:<\/span><\/strong>
\nApril 10 (Full Closure 1)<\/span><\/em><\/strong>
\nApril 24 (Full Closure 2)<\/span><\/em><\/strong>
\nSeptember 5 (Full Closure 3)<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Off-street construction will take place April 2015 to August 2015, and will have no impact on Van Ness Avenue; full access will be available.<\/span><\/p>\n

This construction schedule was determined to be the least impactful on neighbors and was selected in partnership with SFMTA and Caltrans over alternatives that would have required between ten and twenty months of nighttime work.<\/span><\/p>\n

To minimize impact, Van Ness Avenue will remain open to Muni, Golden Gate Transit, pedestrians along one side of Van Ness, the San Francisco Police and Fire Departments, and other first responders. Local drivers will have access inside the central detour zone along Van Ness between Pine and Ellis. Alternative routes are in place for other motorists, and detours will be staffed with traffic officers and flaggers at intersections. All east-west streets crossing Van Ness Avenue will remain open to traffic.<\/span><\/p>\n

In order to accommodate detour traffic, parking restrictions on Franklin and Gough Streets within the detour zone will be in place during the three 72-hour closures.<\/span><\/p>\n

Collaborating with SFMTA and Caltrans, HerreroBOLDT will notify motorists and pedestrians of all upcoming activity and detour options, and road closure notices have been distributed.
