National Police week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ceremonies to honor fallen law enforcement officers will be held in Washington D.C. and state capitols around the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The SFPD will participate in these ceremonies. On May 4, 2015, Officers from the San Francisco Police Department will travel to Sacramento to pay our respects to the 13 California peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2014. We do this to remember the sacrifice these officers and their families have made. We do this to remember Officer Bryan Tuvera. He was working at Taraval Police Station when he was shot by an escaped convict on December 22, 2006. He was 28 years old when he died the next day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">San Francisco Police Officer Bryan Tuvera, star #1941<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Taraval Station Officer Honored<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On April 18, 2015, the Coordinating Council of Lions recognized Officer Joe Mendiola from Taraval Station. Officer Mendiola was recognized for his exemplary work ethic and dedicated service to the community. Officer Joseph Mendiola was born in the Philippines and immigrated to the USA when he was 10 years old. He was raised in the Ingleside District of San Francisco and graduated from Riordan High School. With 13 years as a San Francisco Police Officer, Officer Mendiola acts as a mentor and an example for the newer officers. His is always assisting, guiding, and supporting them as they make their own mark in the fight against crime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">San Francisco Recreation and Parks Eggstravaganza and BBQ Rib Cook-off<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On April 4, 2015, the SF Rec and Park held its Estravaganza BBQ rib cook-off at Sharon Meadows in Golden Gate Park. Taraval Officers, Kevin Brady, Terese Deignan, and Shawn Imhoff represented Taraval Police Station. They went up against Mission Police Station, Chief\u2019s Office, San Francisco Fire Department, and other City agencies. After a lengthy taste test by the judges, Taraval Station was awarded 1st place for best tasting ribs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Taraval District has the lowest crime rate in the City<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> The Part 1 crime rate which is homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, auto theft, burglary theft from vehicle, arson, and other theft is 3.64 percent, per 1000 residents in the Taraval District. This is the lowest Part 1 crime rate in the City.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> Taraval Police Station will hold its community meeting on May 19, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Taraval Police Station.
