One of our\u00a0community’s concerns are the homeless in our neighborhood. Our Homeless Outreach officer, Officer D. Rosiak, has been diligently attempting to assist the homeless. \u00a0Officer Rosiak\u2019s duties include\u00a0disseminating information\u00a0on\u00a0how to find shelter, get meals and the means on how to\u00a0get off the streets.<\/span><\/p>\n

Officer Rosiak often visited\u00a0areas the homeless population commonly frequented\u00a0and offered\u00a0his assistance\u00a0while making sure\u00a0they are not in violation of any\u00a0laws. However, many\u00a0of the homeless continually decline his services. As it\u00a0is their\u00a0right to decline;\u00a0forcing any unwanted services upon the homeless are\u00a0a clear violation of their protected constitutional rights.\u00a0\u00a0Unless they\u00a0were\u00a0in\u00a0violation of the law, no action may be taken or forced on them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here is a\u00a0recent\u00a0incident in helping the homeless and cleaning up our neighborhood:\u00a0 On 09\/27, Officer Rosiak addressed the issue of the homeless community camping under the overpass between San Francisco and Daly City. According to Officer Rosiak,\u00a0it took 15 workers and three dump trucks to clean out the encampment.\u00a0 DPW (Department of Public Work) estimated that it took out 8000 lbs (4 tons) of trash.\u00a0 They will go back within the\u00a0next week to trim more of the tress and thin the foliage out so it would less of a hiding or\u00a0camping spot for the homeless. Some of these items will be thrown away, others items would be tagged and bagged for the owners to retrieve at a different time.<\/span>
