Make sure that shoes fit well and that costumes are short enough to prevent tripping, entanglement or contact with flame.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Consider adding reflective tape or striping to costumes and trick-or-treat bags for greater visibility.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by others.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Masks can limit or block eyesight, consider makeup and decorative hats as alternatives. Hats and caps should fit properly to prevent them from sliding over eyes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cross the street at corners, paying attention to\u00a0traffic signals and using crosswalks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Look left, right and left again when crossing and keep looking as you cross.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Put electronic devices down and keep heads up and walk, don\u2019t run, across the street.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Teach children to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Always walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible. Children should walk on direct routes with the fewest street crossings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Teach children to never dart out into the street or cross between parked cars.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Children under the age of 12 should not be alone at night without adult supervision. If kids are mature enough to be out without supervision, they should stick to familiar areas that are well lit and trick-or-treat in groups.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Instruct your child to never go into the home of a stranger or get into their car. Explain why this is not a god idea and what to do if someone approaches them and tries to talk to them<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Instruct your children not to eat any treats until they bring them home to be examined by you. This way you can check for any problematic\u00a0candy (and get the sample some\u00a0of the best stuff).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods.
