Yesterday morning at approximately 10:40 am, Taraval officers responded to Plymouth Avenue and Broad Street on calls of shots fired. Officers arrived on scene and located three victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. Tragically, one of the victims lost their life as a result of the shooting. The other two victims sustained non-life threatening injuries. Officers immediately began to secure the scene and canvass the neighborhood for witnesses and evidence. We understand the serious impact violence has on a community and the incidents of violence in this neighborhood continues to be a priority for us.<\/span><\/p>\n

This morning, the officers of Taraval Station, went door to door in the neighborhood to speak with our residents. It is vital for us to engage with the community. Through discussions, we are able to share our action plan that will address reduction of violence. It allows community members the opportunity to speak with us one on one and allows us to continue to canvass the neighborhood for investigative leads that may lead to the apprehension of the suspect. Today, I met with many community members to listen to their concerns. As the Commanding Officer of Taraval, I have identified strategies to address the recent violence but I believe it is important that the community know that I value their input on addressing safety in their neighborhood. The officers of Taraval Station are committed to consistently maintaining a high visible presence in the OMI neighborhood.<\/span><\/p>\n

I know many of you have questions and I will supply information to you as best as I can without jeopardizing the investigation of the incident or jeopardizing the possible prosecution of suspects. With that said, I would encourage you to please contact me at Taraval station or via email to discuss with me your concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 6:30pm a public safety town hall meeting will be held to meet with community members. The meeting will be held at the Minnie Lovie Rec Center. Board of Supervisor Ahsha Safai, SFPD Asst. Chief Chaplin, and I will be available to listen to the community and discuss strategies to strengthen safety within the OMI community. I look forward to the discussion and hope many of you will be able to join us.<\/span><\/p>\n
