The 2017 Ironman and Ironwomen competition closed with the Taraval Team taking 6th place. This year’s team consisted of Officer Bordessa, Officer Freeman, Officer Imhoff, Officer Winzelberg and Officer Downs. Congratulations to our Taraval Team for their win and thanks those who organized, participated and supported this fun event!

Not familiar with this competition?  The Ironman was originally established in 1982 by a group of SFPD Narcotics and Vice officers.  Sadly in 1986, Officer Jeff Barker who was one of the driving forces for keeping the event going, passed away. 12 years later, in 1998, then Commander Rick Bruce revived the event in honor of Officer Jeff Barker. Since 1998, the Ironman has been held continuously for nineteen years.

With the tragic murder of Officer Isaac Espinoza in 2004, the event sought to honor Isaac’s ultimate sacrifice and to celebrate his commitment to competition and physical excellence and the proceeds from the event were donated into the Espinoza Trust Fund. Isaac competed in the Ironman competition of 2002 and 2003 and his 49 rep pull-up mark set in 2003 became the official new top score for pull-ups.
