Officers responded to a report of a battery on Noriega Street. The victim stated that she had been working at a cash register when the suspect, who was a regular customer, approached to purchase cigarettes. The victim placed the package of cigarettes on the counter for the suspect, who then attempted to pay for the package with $5.00 instead of the full cost of $7.19. The victim did not want to argue with the suspect and placed the $5.00 back on the counter instead. The suspect immediately took both his money and the cigarettes before walking out of the store, despite the victim attempting to retrieve the merchandise or payment back. The suspect then punched the victim on her face before a witness helped separate the suspect away from the victim and to retrieve the merchandise. The suspect fled the area only to return again at 8:42pm. The victim contacted the police and after further investigation, the suspect was arrested.
