On Tuesday, May 20, 2014, Lieutenant Michael Cleary of Taraval Station marked his last day on the job as a member of the SFPD. For nearly 30 years Lieutenant Cleary served the great people of San Francisco in a variety of positions culminating, in his last post, as a Platoon Commander who was in charge of the day-to-day operations of the District.

Lieutenant Cleary–as a sworn member of the SFPD, you represented the most visible member of government. You took on criminals who acted with malice and hate. As a result, you were respected as one of mankind’s finest tasked with protecting the weak, delivering justice, and bringing hope. You will be remembered for sacrificing weekends and holidays away from your family for the greater good of strangers. You will be remembered for donning a uniform that represents freedom, civility, and equality. And you will be remembered for being a brother in a tight-knit family called the SFPD.

Captain Lum and the members of Taraval Station congratulate you and wish you the happiest retirement!
