Captain’s Message: Increase of Burglaries – Chinese Language Attached

We have seen a series of burglaries in the outer sunset. The series began over the weekend, continued into Tuesday night and occurred in the area between Ulloa and Santiago, from 35th Ave to 41st Ave. The suspect in these cases targets homes with gated entry ways. Once he is able to pry open the gate, he then makes entry into the garage through the door off the entry way. Early cases revealed that the suspect was staying confined to the garage area but in the last case, the suspect made entry into an in-law area. The increase in burglaries is a priority for the members of Taraval station. On Tuesday morning, I requested support from department resources to assist in the investigations, surveillance and apprehension of the suspect. A crime bulletin was issued with an image of the suspect. Many of the Sunset residents have seen the same image on our door. On Wednesday, I and Taraval officers walked door to door in an effort to reach out to the community. Our goal is to inform residents of the information we have, convey our action plan to address the crime and give the residents an opportunity to speak with us one on one regarding their concerns. Our mission is public safety and to be guardians of the community. I assure you that all of our efforts are driven by that focus. The uniformed officers and the investigators are determined to identify and apprehend the suspect in this series.

Separate from the series, on Wednesday, a home invasion occurred in the area of 36th and Santiago. In this case, suspects entered the home, locked the victim in a room and ransacked the residence. The suspects in this case are not related to the series. Sgt Paul Doherty of Taraval SIT is assigned the investigation and he is following up on investigative leads in the case.

I want to assure the residents of the outer sunset, we are utilizing all our resources in these cases. If you have any information and want to voice your concerns, please call me at Taraval Station 415-759-3100 or email me directly at denise.flaherty@sfgov.org.
