The investigation has determined that the San Mateo County Vehicle Theft Task Force unit was comprised of officers from the California Highway Patrol – Redwood City Office, the San Mateo and the Daly City Police Departments.
The investigation has also determined that officers from the California Highway Patrol and the San Mateo Police Department discharged their firearms.
The driver of the suspect vehicle, an approximately 39 year-old male sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital. His condition was upgraded, however, he remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
The San Francisco Police Department Homicide Detail and the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office are conducting a criminal investigation into the OIS. Administrative investigations will be conducted by each of the agencies with an officer involved.
